The Leicester Fencing Club run a number of disciplines simultaneously, and each course is split into a number of modules which help you to learn in a staged way. If you are interested in joining a course, please contact one of the coaches who will be able to tell you which course is most appropriate for your level of skill and experience.

You can also come down on a Tuesday evening to see the club in action, and also if you wish, you can attend a free 'taster session' where we take you through the basics over 1/2 hour or so, and if you like it, you can book your place in our next beginners course. Please contact a coach for more information and to book your free taster session.

The courses run throughout the year with short breaks around the same time as school holidays. The beginners calendar is shown below, and highlights all the holiday periods. If you are Silver or Gold Award members, please visit the members area or contact a coach for more information.

Beginners through to experts...

The BFA Achievement Award scheme is split into nine Grades:

Grade 1 is the first module for beginners, designed as an introduction to fencing, and it provides you with the skills to be able to compete in a 'pool', or a fencing match with other members, and to be able to enter the local beginners competition if you want to.

Grade 2 and the remaining Levels are designed to extend their knowledge, understanding and skill in the sport:

Foil, Epée and Sabre

* Challenging Award Scheme
* Sustains interest
* Monitors progress
* 9 Awards for each weapon
* Woven tracksuit badge and certificate for each award
* Illustrated, colour-coded posters

The scheme is available to all who take part in fencing.

Nine awards for each weapon provide incentive for the progressive learning of fencing skills and theory. The skills required for each award are illustrated on colour-coded wall posters and fencers of all ages can monitor their progress by receiving tracksuit badges and certificates.

BFA Achievement Awards are recognised by other organisations and can be included in Duke of Edinburgh Awards, requirements for the Stunt Register, Scouts and Guides Associations awards etc.
