Interested in Fencing classes in Leicester?
Leicester Fencing Club was established in 1989 (see History) to meet the needs of local fencers from beginners to experienced fencers. The club meets every Tuesday at Aylestone Leisure Centre, Leicester to fulfil the needs of Foil, Epee and Sabre for adults and children alike, and on Friday evenings for Junior Sabre .
Local fencers can come and practise with each other in a safe environment, use our equipment and learn and practise their skills.
If you are considering fencing as a hobby, our experienced coaches are able to provide group lessons to train you through the BAF awards scheme, and we also offer bookable one-to-one coaching sessions for those fencers wishing to hone their skills for competitions or personal goals.
Our intent is to:
- Provide the facility to learn the basics of the sport safely,
- Encourage growth from beginner up to club competitor, County / Regional / National and International Level,
- Provide youth training facilities to learn the sport,
- Provide existing fencers in the locale a place to train alongside other fencers
The club has more than 60 active members, and the members, students, and casual fencers meet for a general session with all disciplines every Tuesday evening throughout the year (see calendar for dates or contact a coach).
Beginners and youth sessions start at 7pm where you will learn the basics of fencing, including an introduction of fencing rules, how to stand and move, and some basic attack and defensive moves. During the course, you will work with your coach and work in pairs in the group to learn and practise the moves. At the end of each module of an Award (Bronze, Silver, Gold), you will be given the chance to demonstrate your skills in an assesment stage, before moving onto the next stage of the course.
Once you have achieved your Level 1 Bronze award, you are welcome to take part in controlled practise bouts to further hone your skills with other fencers and members of the club.
Friday evenings are also available for Junior Sabres only from 7pm for individual lessons (on a rotational basis, 2 people per week), followed by the second hour for class work and controlled practise bouts.
